EITC Potential Programs
In our 7th year of operation, the Philadelphia Performing Arts Charter School is excited to offer the community a special opportunity in our daily programs and curriculum. Now, however, with the Educational Improvement Tax Credit program, we can offer even more specialized, unique and exciting instruction to our growing community of students. Please consider allocating your state corporate tax dollars to Philadelphia Performing Arts Charter School's special programs for the 2006-2007 school year. For your reference, the three programs that we are attempting to fund are listed and synopsized below. However, much more detailed information is available about all three by contacting Joan Pescatore at 215-551-4000.

The Creative Ticket to Learning
Named "The Children of Theatre Street", this after-school Theatre Arts-in-Education Program is designed to enhance the learning of core-curriculum academic subjects and teach students the intricacies of theater and acting. Student will meet with teaching artists and professional actors after school for six hours per week over a twenty-five week period.

This unique program, partners students with professional actors, scenic designers, lighting and sound technicians. Students will study stage basics, dramatic interpretation and creative dramatics, stage movement, improvisation, vocal technique, pantomime and rehearsal process.

Students will also attend a series of selected productions at local theaters. The teaching artist will help students prepare for and reflect upon their visit to the theater. Specific themes and connections will provide students with opportunities to explore and build key life skills.

The program will culminate with a full-length production in a mainstream theater with matinee performances scheduled for local school audiences.

Creative Writing Club
Creative Writing is the most academically challenging component of the after-school program. Studies include journalism, fiction and non-fiction, poetry, public speaking and playwriting. Students will explore the creative aspects of essay writing and gain experience in fiction through reading and writing short stories. They will learn how to write editorials, news and feature articles for school publications. They will be encouraged to work with students from other art disciplines to help broaden their sense of the role of writing. This program is designed to foster artistic expression, explore the functions and values of writing, stimulate imagination and clarify thinking. Students will learn to respond to and analyze the writing of other authors, and work cooperatively to generate discussion and responses to what is read. These strategies will also reinforce the skills taught in the core-curriculum and bridge the arts and core curriculum together.

'24 Challenge Club
'24 Challenge is an after-school math club that is designed to improve math and reasoning skills and teach children the relationship between numbers through a game. The use of numbered game cards gives students the opportunity to test their skill and speed at calculating to reach the number '24'. The game is a teaching tool that has proven to successfully engage students from diverse economic and social backgrounds. After learning game rules, students compete to become school winners. Those winners move on to the city tournament where regional winners from all public, parochial and private schools are present. Tournaments activate entire communities and involve parents and families in the goal to raise mathematics achievement among students. The original 'Single Digits 24 Game' has evolved into nine editions. A level of the game can be introduced as early as Kindergarten, increasing the level of difficulty with each consecutive grade.
