Athena Nobles
My name is Athena Nobles. I am a sixth grade student. This past summer I was invited to be a student ambassador and represent the United States in Australia. I became part of a delegation of nine children from Philadelphia. We studied hard and did a lot of research before our journey. Then the magical day arrived. July 29, 2006... I went from the ordinary 11 year old girl to Student Ambassador of the United States. My delegation joined another delegation of about 30 more kids from California and together we made our journey. We traveled to Australia for 19 days. We learned about the Australian government, met some wonderful people, and got to visit exciting tourist attractions. Our journey began in Melbourne, Australia. We visited the aquarium, Yarra River, Southbank, Melbourne museum and lots of other wonderful places. We went to the Phillip's Island to see the penguin parade. They were so small. They only grow up to one foot tall. After they went to their homes and played around with one another.
We did get to visit a lot of other towns and territories. The list I have talked about was only the first couple of days. From Melbourne we went on to Sydney where I got to visit and tour the Sydney Opera House (for me this is the best experience of all times). We went to Ballarat, Wangaratta, Canberra, and Undara. Then it was on to Cairns. Once we got there we were able to go snorkeling in the Great Barrier Reef. I was amazed that I was able to swim with the exotic fish. It was almost like I was in another world. Their world (the fishes).
Some of the other things I would like to tell you about were the lava tubes, the rain forest, the goldmine fields, the rocks district, the site of the 200 Olympics in Sydney and so much more. I am truly proud and amazed that I have had the opportunity to have this experience. I am also grateful to all the people that have supported me on my journey from the students and teachers, to my friends and family. I would like to make a special thank you to Mrs. Angela Corosanite, Dr. Gail Avicolli and everyone at PPACS school. You have made me a much better person through your teachings, love and support.
Thank You,
Athena Nobles
