Student Spotlight
This page is dedicated to the children of Philadelphia Performing Arts Charter School who have made personal achievements in their lives outside of school.
Haley Brandt: competed in the Philadelphia Rec Centers Gymnastics Competition which was held on February 27th. She received a 3rd place award in the City Championship for tumbling in her age group against 15 other girls. Way to Go Haley!
Brittany DiMatteo: competed in the 2010 Reach the Beach Nationals Cheerleading Competition that was held in Ocean City Maryland on February 27th. She received a 4th place award in the Large Youth Rec Cheerleading category out of 9 other cheerleading squads from the east coast. Brittany cheers with the Interboro Hornets. Congratulations Brittany!
Samantha DiMatteo: competed in the 2010 Reach the Beach Nationals Cheerleading Competition that was held in Ocean City Maryland. She competed in the Stunt Group Competition that was held on February 26th and finished with a 2nd Place win. She also received a 5th place award in the Large Junior Rec Cheerleading category out of 11 other cheerleading squads from the east coast on February 27th. Samantha cheers with the Interboro Hornets. Congratulations Samantha!
Tommy Lincoln: will participate in the St. Baldricks Foundation head-shaving event. This will be Tommy’s third year being a "shavee". Tommy is volunteering to shave his head as an act of solidarity for children undergoing cancer treatment and for childhood cancer research. It is wonderful that you express such a passion for this foundation.

Chris D'Amore and Michael Stanley: Chris D'Amore and Michael Stanley have been selected to play with the Philadelphia School District's All-City Orchestra. ...read the full story
Gianna Merlino: (Room 101) Gianna was involved in "Onstage New York" regional Dance Competition and won high Silver.
Cailin Cannizzaro: (Room 206) Calilin placed third in Murphy Recreation Center's tumbling competition, which qualifies her to compete in the city finals which are being held on March 1, 2008.
Joseph Di Oreo: (Room 207) Joseph takes drama classes at the Walnut Street Theatre. The class he has just finished was based on learning about auditions and working with cameras. He received all A's in the end of Semester Review.
Amaia Childs: (Room 107) She was a soldier - 2007. Amaia is performing at The Marian Anderson Rec Center's Black History Play - Sankofa. She is playing Rosa Parks.
Cameron Wellman: (Room 108) This year, after a very competitive tryout, Cameron was selected for the Flyers Youth (Mite B) travel ice hockey team. During a recent tournament in Aston, PA, Cameron received an MVP Trophy for his outstanding performances as a defense man. He will be traveling to Lake Placio, NY, to compete in the Caniam Tournament in March.
Breanna and Andrew Chachoute: Two young poets from Philadelphia Performing Arts Charter School wrote poems that were chosen to be published by winning a national poetry contest. ...read the full story
Angela Alexander: One day, while driving with her friend to a festival, Angela Alexander found out about the Jr. 76ers Dancing Team. She was immediately interested. So, Angela tried out for the team two years in a row, and she made it both times! ...read the full story
Zoe Gleason And Aaliyah Jackson: Two of our own seventh grade students eagerly accepted an invitation to travel to San Francisco with the People to People program. Carly Wigmore: The most memorable experience of my life was when I went to Europe with the People to People Student Ambassador Program. I visited France and England. When walking off the plane in France and on to the tour bus, to my amazement I spotted the Arc de Triomphe. It was beautiful! We continued our tour of Paris, seeing the Louvre, an art museum that displays many famous paintings like the Mona Lisa. We also viewed the Tour Eiffel, a large monument built by Gustave Eiffel. The rest of my first day in Paris was spent shopping for postcards, key chains and other souvenirs. That evening I was assigned two friendly roommates, Alex and Charity. Athena Nobles: My name is Athena Nobles. I am a sixth grade student. This past summer I was invited to be a student ambassador and represent the United States in Australia. I became part of a delegation of nine children from Philadelphia. We studied hard and did a lot of research before our journey. Then the magical day arrived. July 29, 2006...
