Technology
Integration of technology within the core curriculum is the primary focus of The Philadelphia Performing Arts technology program. Students work to complete a variety of projects, ranging from simple word-processed documents, to the creation of complex multimedia presentations. Every effort is made to support and integrate the core curriculum and the performing arts.
Technology instruction and education includes ethics, human and social issues, as well as learning how to use daily productivity tools such as word processing, communication tools, and online research tools. Our software and the use of the Internet guides our students in academic support, enrichment, meeting National Benchmarks for technology at each grade level. Software programs available in the school include word processing, graphic design, presentation, movie editing, spreadsheet, database and drawing, and programs related to curriculum.
Assignments and projects are designed to develop computer skills while incorporating grade specific curriculum. Critical thinking, building research skills, the ability to find information and learn a program, are emphasized as is using the computer as a tool. As students gather statistics, they are writing reports with the information and learning, at the same time
Computer majors spend 90 minutes a day in the technology lab. This allows time to work on complex multi media presentations, participate in distant learning, web quests, and creating web pages using HTML code, MS Word, and Publisher. All students continually develop word processing, desktop publishing, and keyboarding techniques. Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing® is used to improve basic keyboarding skills. Each successive grade builds on all technology skills learned the year before.
PPACS continually encourages collaboration among teachers - at their grade levels, across grade levels, and with specialists. Technology activities and units created in our lab reflect the collaborative efforts of PPACS administration and staff, to meet the learning needs and styles of our students.
