Mayor Michael Nutter Comes to PPACS
Written By: Lark McAllister & Francesca Piccolo
March 5, 2008
On March 5, 2008, we had a special visitor come to the Philadelphia Performing Arts Charter School to help us celebrate Dr. Seuss' one hundred and fourth birthday. The student council and the faculty members waited patiently for Mayor Michael Nutter to arrive at the school. As he entered, he received a warm, PPACS style welcome.
Mayor Nutter introduced himself nicely to each faculty member and student. He walked through the halls noticing all of the beautiful projects and work of the students. Prior to the mayor's read aloud, he was entertained by a performance from our ballet and vocal majors. They sang and danced to Oh the Thinks You Can Think. During his stay, he read "The Foot Book" and "The Cat In The Hat" with excitement to the Kindergarten classes. They enjoyed this tremendously. To everyone's surprise, the mayor actually stood to animate the text while he read.
When the reading was finished, our French Majors served Michael Nutter cake, green mousse, and green eggs and ham sandwiches. When he left the school, students remained in the studios to be greeted by "Thing One" and "The Cat in The Hat". Michel Nutter's visit to our school was a great success and we hope that he is able to visit us again.
