Student Wins Essay Contest
During Black History Month, our creative writing majors took part in a contest sponsored by the Johnson House in Philadelphia. While all of the students' entries were fantastic, one stood out from all the rest. Eighth grader, Theodore Fox.

Bendaroos: Deal or Dud
In January, Fox 29's Michelle Buckman visited our school to test Bendaroos. Mrs. Giampietro, our art teacher, used the popular craft sticks with several students from our school.

Student Artwork to be Featured in School Arts Magazine
The artwork of our Visual Arts Majors will be featured in School Arts Magazine. The article is entitled Mardi Gras Revelers and was submitted by our art teacher, Megan Giampietro.

Widener Memorial Foundation Gallery
Several of our students had artwork on display at the Widener Memorial Foundation Gallery at the Moore College of Art and Design. Their work will be on display from December 4, 2009 through January 27, 2010.

"Cody Wise; Homecoming King" - a story from the South Philly Review
One area performer is looking forward to helping Philadelphians blow out the candles on America's cake next week. He'll also mix in a little singing, ice cream eating and fireworks.

PPACS Sweeps 2009 Music Showcase Festival
On Friday, May 15th, students performed in the annual Music Festival Showcase at Six Flags Great Adventure. Once again, our students outperformed the rest.

One of PPACS Most Revered Students
Cody Wise, one of PPACS' most revered students, has helped boost our school's reputation. With his grades, amazing talents and outgoing and mannered behavior, Cody exemplifies what a child can become when they attend PPACS from Kindergarten up.

Philadelphia Performing Arts welcomed KSM to rock our school on October 23rd, 2008 while they were on tour.

Students Asked to Perform at "Back to Bandstand" Reunion

Visual Arts Majors Receive Awards
Several of our young artists were featured in a gallery for "Youth Art Month" at the Moore College of Art & Design. Of those students featured, three took home top awards from this showcase.

String Orchestra & Choir Sweep Music Showcase Festival
On May 9th, the vocal and instrumental majors attended the Music Showcase Festival at Six Flags amusement park. For the first time ever, the choir and string orchestra won the "gold" awards.

Students Receive Scholarships to Moore
PPACS students were offered scholarships to attend the "Young Artist Workshop" at the Moore College of Art & Design.

Devonte Grant To Attend Inaugural Celebrations
Devonte was chosen to represent our school as part of the Congressional Youth Leadership Council.

Creative Writing Students Win National Essay Contest
Three of our wonderful creative writing majors received an acknowledgement from the 2008 Letters about Literature, a contest co-sponsored in Pennsylvania by the Pennsylvania Center for the Book and Target.

Irish Potato Contest - Saint Patrick's Day
On March 13th PPACS' Vocal, Violin and Ballet majors showed off their talents as they performed to celebrate Saint Patrick's Day!

Mayor Michael Nutter Comes to PPACS

On Wednesday, February 13, 2008, the Philadelphia Performing Arts Charter School held a jump rope competition to help raise money for the American Heart Association.

The Women's Board of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts holds the USArtists: American Fine Art Show each year. This year's show is extra special because our very own students were asked to model for some of the artists.

Cody Wise In The Lion King - April 6, 2006
Cody Wise is about to embark on his biggest venture to date: an eight-month run in the Disney production of the musical "The Lion King." The show will make its way to Philadelphia, running June 8 to Sept. 10 at the Kimmel Center.

Wise plays the lion Simba, the story's main character, who, much like the actor, undergoes a journey of self-discovery.
