Dear Parents, Family and Friends,

As we embark on a new marking period, I would like to take the time to reflect on our most recent achievements. This is our first year with our new science lab and I couldn't be more excited! It is a joy to walk past each day and see our students actively engaged in challenging lessons and experiments.

Our new lunch program is up and running at full steam. The children adapted very well to the new routine. It appears that they are enjoying the menu as well.

I am especially proud of the vast school spirit conveyed thus far. All of our Halloween events were a huge success. I especially enjoyed seeing our older students at their dance. They enjoyed themselves thoroughly and I was overjoyed by their positive behavior. I truly cannot wait until we hold events like this in the future. Our 8th grade students were also flawless at their Turkey Trot. They acted like respectful ladies and gentlemen throughout the entire event. I took great pleasure in spending this evening with them.

As usual, Bingo Night was loads of fun. Our families brought their competitive spirits and created a warm and friendly atmosphere. It was evident that everybody enjoyed themselves. I'm looking ahead with enthusiasm at all of the wonderful events our family association has planned for this school year.

As the holiday season is well under way, I am anticipating our school's annual winter concert. December the nineteenth cannot arrive soon enough. It is evident that our students plan to wow audiences yet again with the world of talent they each possess.

It is clear that this school year has already been off to a running start. We've accomplished so much in such a brief amount of time. I am just grateful that I can celebrate this benchmark year with the wonderful teachers, staff, students and families that make our school as wonderful as it is known to be. Have a happy and safe holiday season.

Respectfully Yours,

Dr. Gail H. Avicolli

Dear Parent or Guardian,

Our school has purchased a subscription to a research-based standards mastery program called Study Island. During our subscription, your child can access Study Island free of charge anywhere that Internet access is available! Study Island has state-wide security features in place to provide greater peace of mind. We are excited about the benefits this program can bring to our students. And we encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity.

Sincerely,

Dr. Gail H. Avicolli

Using Study Island from Home

Study Island is completely Web-based, which allows students to access the program from any computer with an Internet connection and a standard Web browser. Study session results are automatically recorded for teacher review, including results from sessions outside of school.

The program is divided into sections based on subject (math, reading, etc.). each section is made up of 15 to 30 topics, with each topic containing about 20 to 30 questions. Topics are accompanied by a lesson, which contains a brief overview of the material covered in that topic.

Follow the instructions below to use the program:

  1. Go to www.studyisland.com
  2. Enter your username and password at the upper left side of the screen, and click "Submit". Students received a username and password from their school.
  3. Click on an Assignment that the teacher has prepared for the class (math, reading, etc.).
  4. Choose a Session Type. The default setting is Test Mode; however, students may also select Printable Worksheet or Game mode if permitted by PPACS.
  5. To pass a topic, you must meet the passing requirements, which are based on a minimum number of questions answered (usually 10) and a minimum percentage correct (around 70%). A blue ribbon icon is displayed next to all passed topics.
  6. Students will only have access to the assignments that the teacher created. Please do not work on assignments that have a future date. Once your child has practiced this assignment with their teacher, then they are welcome to work on the assignment from home.
  7. When you pass all topics in all subjects, you have completed the program.

To Access Reports:

Select a subject under "Reports" from the left-handed side of the screen to access your reports.

"We have developed an incentive program and the students that reach the blue ribbon status in a predetermined number of skills are invited to a luau with the principal." - Randy Boggs, Bendorf Elementary, NV
